How do I get to the consulate by subway from Queens or Brooklyn?
The most convenient stop is 34th St-Herald Square, served by the B, D, F, M, N, Q, R and W lines. From there you only need to walk two or three blocks to W 37th St. From Queens, the E, M, R and 7 lines connect easily to Herald Square or Times Square. We do not recommend driving due to the lack of parking in Midtown.
Can I process my passport and DUI (national ID) in the same visit?
Each service usually requires its own appointment in the portal. If you need both a passport and a DUI, book both services and check whether the system lets you schedule them on the same day. Always bring your valid DUI and, for minors, the Salvadoran birth certificate and the minor's ID card (carné de minoridad).
My child was born in a New York hospital — can I register them as Salvadoran?
Yes. Children of a Salvadoran father or mother born in New York can be registered in El Salvador's family registry and obtain their Salvadoran passport, while keeping their U.S. citizenship. You will need the New York birth certificate, ideally apostilled, and the parents' documents. Book the "family registry" appointment.

Can the consulate help me if a relative is detained by ICE or passes away in New York?
Yes. Consular protection is one of the essential services. In the event of an ICE detention, serious accident, hospitalization or death of a Salvadoran, contact the consulate or the Call Center immediately, which handles emergencies 24 hours a day. You have the right to communicate with your consulate under the Vienna Convention.
