How to book an appointment at the Salvadoran consulate in the US
Almost every service at the Salvadoran consulates —DUI (national ID), passport, birth certificate, powers of attorney or apostilles— requires a prior appointment. The good news is that scheduling one is free and you can do it online or by phone, without paying any middleman. In this guide we walk you through the two official methods step by step.

Official channels to book an appointment
El Salvador's Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers three free channels to schedule your consular appointment in the United States:
- 🌐 Web portal: portalcitas.rree.gob.sv
- 📞 Call Center: 1-888-301-1130 (option 4 for the US and Canada)
- 💬 WhatsApp: +503 7070-1071
The appointment is completely free. No one should charge you just to "get you an appointment": if they do, they are a middleman, not the consulate.
Book an appointment through the web portal, step by step
- Go to portalcitas.rree.gob.sv from your phone or computer.
- Create your account or log in with your email address.
- Select the country (United States) and the consulate closest to your city.
- Choose the service: DUI, passport, birth certificate, power of attorney, apostille, etc.
- Pick a date and time from those available and confirm.
- Save the appointment confirmation (print it or save the screenshot).
Book an appointment through the Call Center
If you prefer not to use the internet or have questions, you can schedule by phone by calling 1-888-301-1130 and selecting option 4 (United States and Canada). An agent will help you choose a consulate, service and time slot. You can also message via WhatsApp at +503 7070-1071.
Have your personal information ready and, if it's a renewal, the details of your previous document. Write down the number or confirmation of the appointment they give you.
The day of your appointment
- Arrive 10–15 minutes early, before your assigned time.
- Bring the appointment confirmation and all the required documents for your service.
- If you are paying for a service (such as the passport), check beforehand which payment methods your consulate accepts.
- If you can't make it, cancel or reschedule in advance to free up the slot for someone else.
Watch out for scams and middlemen
There are websites and "agents" that charge to book appointments that are actually free, or that promise to speed up paperwork. Remember: the only valid channels are the portalcitas.rree.gob.sv portal and the official Call Center. Never share your passwords or make advance payments to third parties other than the consulate itself.
