Salvadoran consular services in the heart of the Intermountain West

The Consulate General of El Salvador in Salt Lake City operates at 124 S 400 E, Suite 410, right in downtown Utah's capital, just a few blocks from the Salt Palace and the office corridor surrounding the Central City area. From here it serves a Salvadoran community that has grown strongly alongside the state's economy: many of our compatriots came to work in the construction that transformed the Salt Lake Valley, in the logistics of the large warehouses along I-15, and in the hospitality and cleaning services of a rapidly expanding metropolitan area.

This office is also the point of reference for Salvadorans spread across the entire Mountain West and the Intermountain region: from the urban belt of the Wasatch Front —West Valley City, Provo, Orem, Ogden and Sandy— to compatriots traveling in from neighboring states with little consular presence, such as Idaho, Wyoming, Montana or parts of Nevada. Service is provided by appointment only; below you will find the exact address, phone number, hours and every step to book your slot.

Frequently asked questions – Consulate of El Salvador in Salt Lake City

Which part of the Mountain West does the Salt Lake City consulate serve?

The Salt Lake City office is the reference Salvadoran consular office for the Intermountain region. It serves the community throughout Utah —including the Wasatch Front, with West Valley City, Provo, Orem, Ogden and Sandy— and provides support to compatriots in neighboring states with little consular presence, such as Idaho, Wyoming or Montana. Always book your appointment at portalcitas.rree.gob.sv before traveling.

How do I get to the downtown consulate without a car?

The consulate is at 124 S 400 E, very well connected to UTA transit. You can take the TRAX light rail (Blue or Green lines) and get off near Library or Trolley, just a few blocks away. If you are coming from Ogden, Provo or Orem, the FrontRunner train drops you at Salt Lake Central, and from there you make a quick transfer to TRAX. That way you avoid hunting for parking downtown.

What is the phone number and email of the El Salvador consulate in Utah?

Phone service is handled through the Call Center / Virtual Consulate at 1-888-301-1130, which is open Monday to Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and on weekends from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm; press option 4 for appointments. You can also message via WhatsApp at +503 7070-1071 or email consuladosaltlakecity@rree.gob.sv with questions about your service.

I live in West Valley City or Provo — do I go to this same consulate?

Yes. West Valley City, Provo, Orem, Ogden, Sandy and the rest of the Wasatch Front are part of the Salt Lake City office's jurisdiction. West Valley City is, in fact, one of the localities with the largest concentration of Latino population in Utah. From all of these cities you can reach downtown via I-15 or by combining the FrontRunner and TRAX.

Does the consulate open on any Saturday for services?

Regular hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, but the Salt Lake City office periodically opens special Saturday sessions to ease the demand for ID cards and passports. These dates are announced in advance through the official channels of the consulate and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; check those announcements and, even on a Saturday, book your appointment beforehand.

My child was born in Utah — can I register them as Salvadoran here?

Yes. Children of a Salvadoran father or mother who are born in Utah (or in other Mountain West states) can be registered in El Salvador's civil registry through the Salt Lake City consulate. This allows them to obtain their Salvadoran birth certificate, their minor's ID card and, later on, their passport. Bring the U.S. birth certificate and the Salvadoran parent's documentation.
